Sushi has been labelled the ‘healthy lunch option’ by many magazines and newspaper columnists, but is this really true? Well, obviously it depends what kind of sushi you buy because the fats in different meats will vary, but on the whole yes it is a very healthy meal. Why is this? Well, it is usually low in calories but this isn’t the main reason, the main reason is the fact that there’s no added fat. Classic Maki sushi is essentially rolls that are made with sticky rice, fish and dried seaweed, also called ‘nori’. That’s it. Compare that to your typical sandwich with mayonnaise, salt and possibly sugar and there really is no comparison. So there you have it, the next time you’re out looking for lunch try a healthy sushi dish instead of a sandwich. You’ll feel a lot better for it, even if your bank balance doesn’t (good sushi can be quite pricey).
