Managing pain with non-pharmaceutical methods

Pain management in any part of the human body is unpleasant and should always be resolved. Those who suffer from either chronic or acute pain may wish to opt for non-pharmaceutical methods over medications.

Many people try to avoid taking too much medications as they worry about the side effects, long term implications, and building a tolerance or addiction. Many people that suffer with pain, may find themselves taking certain strong pain medications for a long duration. Trying a new approach to pain management may help with short term and long term health.

Non-pharmaceutical methods include massage, pet therapy, acupuncture, physiotherapy, gel packs (hot or cold). Another effective method for relieving pain is a Tens machine, this works by sending stimulating pulses across the skin and to the nerves, helping your body to produce higher levels of its own natural painkillers, known as Endorphin.

Before you begin any non-pharmaceutical methods towards helping with your pain management you must always consult your physician first.
