Bulking up whilst losing fat

Not every slim person has low body fat, some very skinny guys and girls carry a lot of fat beneath the surface, so one question that gets asked a lot is:

Can I bulk up and lose fat at the same time?

Unfortunately there is no simple answer and you’ll know that if you’ve spent some time researching online. If you’re fairly new to the gym and you’ve only started upping your protein and lifting, it’s very possible to lose fat and build some muscle at the same time, but we emphasize the word ‘some’. Over time this will become harder though, so there is a limit and you will eventually have to decide whether you want to bulk or want to cut. We recommend that you bulk first and then focus on cutting. You can of course up your protein but ‘eat clean’, so no unhealthy foods. If you do this you’ll bulk up without gaining vast amounts of fat. Just remember you do need to have your ultimate goal in your head first so answer this:

Do you look like a person who needs to bulk up, or a person who needs to lose weight? Once you know the answer, everything else will be a lot clearer.
